binary asteroid predictions 2027 [ BAA main belt asteroids page ] Asteroid
diameters >10 km, Star brighter than m13 (but not exclusively)
Maximum duration >1 sec. These predicted paths are subject to orbital uncertainty. Please search for updates nearer the time using Occult Watcher Cloud : https://cloud.occultwatcher.net/.....See the IOTA-ES Call for Observations: https://call4obs.iota-es.de/ Gaia
suspect moons and confirmed binary objects: The shadow paths of moons are *not* generally included here. Moons can orbit out to 10x the primary diameter. In practice it's usual to record observations for +/- 1.5 min on either side of the mid-time. (Total record time of 3 min). Moons of smaller asteroids ( 5 - 20 km ) appear to be more common than previously suspected and is a furtile area for ammateur discovery. The process is to monitor asteroid predictions from within and outside the nominal shadow paths. Key: "Gaia
binary
asteroid": Presence has been calculated by ESA with Gaia EDR3 data.
Occultation observations
are highly desired.
